Spotlight on Burgenland’s Economy

Burgenland, known for its blend of culture and innovation, is a region of remarkable economic dynamism.

In recent years, Burgenland has seen significant growth in tourism, recording over 3.1 million overnight stays in both 2019 and 2023.

Agriculture plays a crucial role, with Burgenland being a major producer of wines, including celebrated varieties like Chardonnay, Welschriesling, and the unique Ruster Ausbruch, exclusively produced in Rust.

The region’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its achievement of energy self-sufficiency, with more than 100% of its electricity coming from renewable sources.

Joining the BOLD UnConference at our second stop are a number of local business owners, among them:

  • Christian Strasser, General Manager of PET to PET Recycling, the owner of the country’s only PET recycling plant for the domestic beverage industry.

  • Jürgen Beiglböck, Managing Director at rmDATA, a group focusing on geoinformatics developing intelligent software to create, integrate, and organize spatial information.

  • Tanja Stöckl, a gas station owner from Eisenstadt, who embraces digitalization and innovation in her business.
