Arriving in Graz

We’ve reached the second destination of our 5-day journey: Graz, the second-largest city in Austria and the capital of Styria.

Today, the old town will become our playground as we go on the hunt for signals and data points, but more on that later.

First, let’s bring our knowledge of this gem up to date!

Graz is renowned for its well-preserved medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, featuring Renaissance courtyards and Baroque facades.

Styria, with Graz as its capital, is a major industrial region. Manufacturing makes up about one-third of the regional GDP, with €1.75 billion invested in research and development annually - one of the highest in Europe and the world.

The region is highly export-oriented, with three-quarters of its goods shipped internationally. Key sectors include machinery, metalware, automotive, and electronics.
